Liga MB Round 14: Metapan keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Metapan as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Metapan smashed 10th ranked Chalchuapa at home 132-74. Metapan dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 46. Metapan forced 19 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 54-27 including a 41-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 42 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. Venezuelan point guard Edwin Mijares (186-1992) had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 8 rebounds and 20 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American swingman Eddie Ishman (197-1986, college: Miles) chipped in 27 points and 9 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) during the contest. Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-1987, college: App State) responded with 22 points and 7 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Metapan have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with San Salvador. Chalchuapa lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Cojute. Chalchuapa will play next round against Santiagueno trying to get back on the winning streak. Metapan will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked San Salvador on the road.
Liga MB top team - San Salvador (10-1) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Aguila (6-5) in San Miguel 78-71. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Aguila. Dominican forward Cristian Joan Duran (201-1996, college: Tenn Tech) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Marc Montavious supported him with 13 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Even a double-double of 13 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks by guard Bryan Garcia (168-1997) did not help to save the game for Aguila. San Salvador have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-1 record, which they share with Metapan. Aguila at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. San Salvador will play against league's leader Metapan at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Aguila will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 14: Fantasmas won against Chalchuapa on the opponent's court 110-93. Nejapa unfortunately lost to Metapan in a home game 88-98. Santa Ana was rolled over Brujos on the road 77-107. Nejapa lost to defending champion Santa Tecla on its own court 99-114. Bottom-ranked Cojute was beaten by Santiagueno in a road game 75-92.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 34 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 4 blocks by Yoel Cubillas of Metapan.

Chalchuapa - Fantasmas 93-110

Rather expected game when 10th ranked Chalchuapa (1-10) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Fantasmas (4-6) 110-93. Fantasmas forced 19 Chalchuapa turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Cuban point guard Osmel Oliva (180-1987) notched a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 12 assists and 5 steals to lead the effort and American JaCarre Crockett (192-1996, college: Philander Smith) supported him with 38 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Even a double-double of 31 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Jose Ortiz (190-1990, college: DelVal) did not help to save the game for Chalchuapa. His fellow American import Gorg Alhag (190-1997, college: Mayville St.) added 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Brujos players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 16 blocks. Dominican forward Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) notched a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 steals to lead the effort and center Teodoro Romero (202-1985) supported him with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks.
